In a significant move against alleged land mismanagement, Barelang Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit conducted a search at the BP Batam office, focusing on the Land Archives room on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, around 3:00 PM.
The operation was part of an ongoing investigation into the mismanagement of land allegedly within a protected forest area, directly implicating the company PT. Karlina Cahaya Bangun.
The raid was initiated under a document search warrant issued by the Batam District Court, after repeated unheeded requests for documents from BP Batam regarding land allocations suspected to be on protected forest land.
During the raid, led by Barelang Police Chief, Commissioner Heribertus Ompusunggu, officers were observed removing stacks of files from the Land Archives room, indicating a thorough search for evidence tied to the allegations against PT. Karlina Cahaya Bangun.

Commissioner Ompusunggu highlighted that despite three formal requests for cooperation, BP Batam failed to respond, prompting the forceful retrieval of potentially incriminating documents.

The area under investigation is known as Southlink, located between Baloi and Tiban, where luxury properties have reportedly encroached upon forest land, leading to significant environmental concerns.
The land has been placed under a status quo order, prohibiting any further development activities pending the outcome of the investigation. Authorities continue to piece together the involvement of BP Batam’s officials and PT. Karlina Cahaya Bangun.
This police intervention underscores the ongoing challenges in managing land resources in Indonesia, particularly in regions prone to illegal exploitation. The case is a stark reminder of the need for stringent oversight and compliance with environmental laws to protect vital ecosystems. It also stresses the importance of transparency and responsiveness by government entities like BP Batam in safeguarding public and environmental interests.
