In preparation for the post-Eid travel surge, Hang Nadim International Airport in Batam, Kepulauan Riau, has scheduled 31 additional flights to handle an anticipated peak of up to 12,000 passengers on Monday, April 15, 2024.
The end of the Eid al-Fitr holiday typically sees a significant increase in travel as individuals return from holiday destinations. Hang Nadim International Airport, responding to this annual phenomenon, has strategically increased flight schedules to ensure a smooth transit for travelers.
Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah, CEO of PT Bandara Internasional Batam (BIB), reported that the airport began experiencing higher traffic from the day before the expected peak, with passenger numbers potentially reaching between 11,000 to 12,000.

The additional flights primarily connect Batam with major cities such as Jakarta, Medan, Pekanbaru, and Surabaya, serviced by airlines including Citilink, Super Air Jet, and Lion Air.
Nugroho Jati, Operations Director at BIB, emphasized that although the extra flights are scheduled from morning till evening, the airport remains on a 24-hour alert to handle any emergency landings, ensuring readiness for both domestic and international flights.
The airport has also mobilized a coordinated response center involving 400 personnel from various agencies, including health, meteorological, electrical, security, and search and rescue teams, to manage the increased passenger flow and potential emergencies effectively.
