In a successful operation amidst the bustling Eid holiday traffic at Punggur Roro Port in Batam, customs officers intercepted a truck attempting to smuggle thousands of illegal cigarette slopes, averting a significant loss to the state.
On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the Lebaran holiday drew significant crowds to the ports, customs officials at Batam’s Bea and Cukai office acted decisively to stop a truck loaded with illegal goods from boarding the KMP Citra Mandala Abadi ferry, destined for Sei Selari Pakning.
The truck, bearing the license plate BB 8002 YB, was flagged by vigilant customs officers around 7:00 PM local time as it attempted to slip through checks and board the ferry.

Evi Octavia, Head of Compliance Guidance and Information Services at Batam Customs Office, confirmed the seizure of the illegal cigarette cargo, hidden within a modified void space in the truck.
The intended destination for the illicit goods was Bengkalis, but the quick response by customs officials ensured the plot was thwarted.
The seized vehicle has been taken to the Batam Customs Office at Batu Ampar for further inspection and to assess the financial impact of the attempted smuggling on state revenues.
