The Batam City Tourism Association (Asparnas) has ramped up its tourism promotion efforts towards China, resulting in a significant uptick in Chinese tourists visiting Batam and the Riau Islands. With a focus on environmental conservation, Asparnas has successfully attracted hundreds of visitors in March alone, offering unique experiences like mangrove planting in Tanjung Piayu as part of their eco-friendly tourism initiative.
The initiative by Asparnas to target the Chinese market has paid off, with a noticeable increase in tourist arrivals from China. This growth is attributed to successful negotiations with major travel agencies in China and the introduction of environmentally conscious tourism activities. Batam’s strategy includes a blend of natural attractions, cultural experiences, and active environmental engagement, setting a positive trend for future tourism in the region.
Recent meetings with major Chinese travel agents have resulted in positive outcomes, with over 300 Chinese tourists visiting Batam in March, and around a thousand more confirmed over the next three months.

Asparnas is promoting environmental tourism through activities like mangrove planting in collaboration with Akar Bumi, reflecting a commitment to preserving natural habitats.
Chinese tourists typically spend three days and two nights in Batam, with Asparnas offering hotline services for any assistance they may require during their stay.
The initiative not only showcases Batam’s environmental efforts but also provides an enhanced visitor experience, from dining to accommodation.
