Thailand is set to welcome an estimated 36 million foreign tourists in 2024, buoyed by economic recovery and supportive government policies, according to Kasikorn Research Center (KResearch). This forecast, however, falls short of the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ projection of 40 million international arrivals, aiming to generate about 2.3 trillion baht (approx. SGD 100.7 billion) in tourism revenue. Meanwhile, Indonesia targets 17 million tourists, and Singapore expects 15 to 16 million, marking a competitive year for tourism in Southeast Asia.

The region’s tourism sector is witnessing a significant resurgence, with Thailand leading the charge with its forecast of 36 million foreign tourists in 2024. Indonesia and Singapore have also set ambitious targets, aiming for 17 million and 15-16 million visitors, respectively, highlighting a collective effort to revive the tourism industry and boost economic recovery post-pandemic.

Enhanced by visa-free policies for visitors from China, Kazakhstan, India, and Taiwan, Thailand’s aggressive tourism strategies are expected to draw substantial international attention, further amplified by the mutual visa exemption with China starting March 1.

With a notable increase in tourist arrivals in 2023, Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, sets a higher target for 2024, backed by collaborative efforts from various stakeholders.

The Singapore Tourism Board predicts foreign tourist arrivals to reach between 15 and 16 million this year, contributing significantly to tourism revenue, although not yet surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

Thailand has observed a 34% increase in international flights in January-February compared to the same period last year, suggesting enhanced accessibility and connectivity for tourists.
