The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of Hang Nadim, Batam, has issued a weather forecast for Tuesday, December 26, 2023, warning of high waves and strong winds in the Riau Archipelago, particularly in the northern Natuna waters.

With the Nataru holidays approaching and an increase in maritime traffic, BMKG’s warning comes as a critical alert for fishermen and maritime transport services. The warning is based on the observation of a shearline and strong local instability near the Riau Islands, contributing to significant cloud growth and rainfall potential.

The BMKG forecasts generally cloudy weather with potential for light to heavy rain accompanied by lightning/thunder and strong winds. Fishermen and maritime services in the Kepri waters are advised to exercise caution.
