In a significant move towards technological integration, Indonesia’s BPJS Kesehatan has collaborated with advanced healthcare facilities to launch a fingerprint-based service registration for JKN-KIS participants, aiming to simplify access and improve the accuracy of health services.

BPJS Kesehatan’s adoption of biometric technology signifies a leap forward in Indonesia’s healthcare system, providing easier access and securing patient identity, with benefits for both Indonesian residents and international visitors.

Fingerprint validation, replacing manual processes, expedites registration and ensures participant eligibility, initially available for specific departments, now extends to nearly all outpatient services.

The feature offers a safeguard against misuse of healthcare cards, ensuring that services are only utilized by rightful participants, as stated by Manna, Head of BPJS Kesehatan in Batam.

Exception for the use of the fingerprint feature includes children, individuals under 17, the disabled, and special condition patients. However, standardized biometric devices ensure consistent connectivity with the BPJS Kesehatan application.

With the new system, participants simply scan their fingerprint to print their Eligibility Letter (SEP) at self-service kiosks, streamlining their hospital visit.

While challenges arise with biometric data collection, especially for the elderly or manual workers, online queuing and self-service kiosks have significantly reduced patient wait times.

This integration of fingerprint technology by BPJS Kesehatan reflects an emphasis on innovation in healthcare, promising Singaporeans and international visitors with ties to Indonesia an improved and secure experience when accessing medical services in the country.

Indonesia elevates its healthcare system with the introduction of fingerprint validation for JKN-KIS participants, enhancing service efficiency and security, and setting a new standard of care for residents and visitors alike.
