The Election Commission of Batam welcomes the timely arrival of 16,229 ballot boxes from the Central Election Commission, marking a crucial preparation step for the forthcoming 2024 elections.
On Sunday evening, Batam’s Election Commission witnessed the docking of the vessel MV. Pulau Nunukan of PT. Putra Karya Mandiri Nusantara, bearing a pivotal consignment for the 2024 elections: over 16,000 ballot boxes.
The Chairman of Batam’s Election Commission, Mawardi, verified the shipment’s contents, highlighting that the two 40-foot containers are part of the essential logistics needed for the Batam election process. However, due to constraints, the unloading process has been deferred to Monday, 16th October.
In terms of other election logistics, the commission’s storage facility in Batam already houses voting booths, ink, and seals. Mawardi elaborated, “Currently, our inventory comprises 6,482 bottles of ink, 12,964 voting booths, and 311,337 seals.”
Referencing an official letter from the General Secretary of the Central Election Commission, five essential election logistics items were listed, including the already received ballot boxes, voting booths, ink, and seals. The remaining item, plastic seals intended as lock replacements, with a requirement of 84,266 units, is anticipated to reach Batam by the month’s third week.

Mawardi recalled recent arrivals, including 311,337 paper seals transported by sea from Medan, North Sumatra, arriving on Saturday evening, and 12,964 voting booths catering to the needs of the Batam polling stations. He stated, “Each of Batam’s 3,241 polling stations will be allocated four voting booths.”
The commission’s attention to detail extends to the booths’ design, crafted from waterproof duplex cardboard, sized 60 cm by 50 cm, ensuring ample space for voters. The commission, in collaboration with the local police, will oversee the logistics’ security, ensuring their safekeeping until required.
This development underscores Indonesia’s commitment to transparent and organized democratic processes. Batam’s meticulous preparations indicate the region’s dedication to ensuring a smooth electoral process, potentially fostering increased investor confidence and tourism opportunities.
Batam’s Election Commission is in high gear for the upcoming 2024 elections, receiving a significant consignment of over 16,000 ballot boxes. Alongside other previously received essential election materials, the commission remains poised for organized and transparent polls.
