Governor of Kepri, Ansar Ahmad, has emphasized the strategic importance of the Raja Haji Abdullah (RHA) Karimun Airport, anticipating its readiness to service narrow body 737 planes by the close of 2024.
Raja Haji Abdullah (RHA) Karimun Airport, situated in Seibati, Tebing, is under significant focus as the Kepri region seeks to diversify its economic contributors beyond Batam. Governor Ansar Ahmad visited Karimun in response to the local government’s 24th-anniversary invitation.
While Batam currently stands as the primary economic driver in Kepri, there’s a strategic move to distribute this economic influence to areas like Karimun. The airport plays a pivotal role in this vision.
The ambition for the airport is not just to serve as a transit point but to establish itself as a significant entry point into the region, thereby relieving some of Batam’s current burden.

Karimun’s dependency on Batam for travel and transit is expected to decrease with the operationalization of RHA Karimun Airport.
Recent discussions between the governor and the Minister of Transportation have been promising, with anticipations set for the airport to accommodate narrow body 737 planes by the end of 2024.
The entire initiative stands as a testament to the regional government’s proactive approach in harnessing the potential of lesser-tapped regions like Karimun.
For Singaporeans and international travelers, the expansion and development of the RHA Karimun Airport signals enhanced connectivity, more travel options, and potentially faster transit times. This move also promises to boost tourism and business in the broader Kepri region, offering a diverse range of destinations beyond just Batam.
Kepri’s Governor Ansar Ahmad underscores the strategic expansion of RHA Karimun Airport. With plans for it to service narrow body 737 planes by 2024, this marks a pivotal shift for the region, providing Singaporeans and international tourists with greater connectivity and travel options in the Kepri region.
